It’s All About the Party

As much as the Oscars tried to be fresh and modern last year, it seemed to be the opposite this year with the return to classic, a term that could also be used to describe the event’s host for the 9th time, Billy Crystal.  The dress for the most part, seemed to be inspired by the much anticipated return of Mad Men.  Some of the styles were a dull interpretation of a fifties type, gown style, topped with your standard pincurls and red lips. Some were a bit more like dumbed down pageantry gowns while others were just wacky choices for the such a grand event.

All in all it wasn’t very surprising since Hollywood always tends to water down almost everything…

Ok, I get it, I get it, the gowns are picked to appeal to the mass market and there were more than a few that pulled it out, but the best and most, shall we say daring, were saved for the Vanity Fair after party….

Angelina always looks gorgeous but what’s up with the awkward chicken leg, posing? And though I love black, this dress is a little blah for the red carpet, it makes her look slightly wide and it photographs poorly, being that it is such a matte black.

P.s.  I’ve heard that “the leg” called “Jolie’ing”, is a hot topic in the social networking scene with 38,000 followers in just three days! Oh, whoa, is the crazy world of fame and fortune.

Loving the sexy back J.Lo!

But the front is slightly ill-fitting….I’m pretty sure there are some areola slip pics, making the rounds. Also, the hair!  She does look good with it pulled back but this extemely high and mighty poof that she has been sporting for most of her red carpet looks needs an update.

Va va voom! Glenn Close looking good in a form fitting Zac Posen.

Ellie Kemper, in Armani Privé… gorgeous color! Usually we seen Anne Hathaway in Armani Privé and she always tends to steal the show.  Good move for Ellie!

Cameron Diaz’s dress was gorgeous, she has such a unique style of casual-glamour, though I wish there were a bit more of the silver sparkle climbing the bodice, just sayin’.

So chic, though a little boring in the accessories department. Dress: Tom Ford

Kate Mara, in Jack Guisso Couture.  Sweet and pretty

Fun and a bit wakadoo but perfect for this comedic actress. Elizabeth Banks, in Chadwick Bell.

Chic and modern…

God I love her!  Beautifully intricate dress and short! Kate Bosworth, in Prabal Gurung

Pulling a double whammy… Cameron Diaz, in Victoria Beckham, fits like a glove!

Tasteful, with all of the right new and trendy twists.  Graphic with texture and a tiny peplum, Mia Wasikowska, in Antonio Berardi.
